Strings that Attach us to Akaal Purakh

All of us have some fond memories of a "Mela" which we must have visited in our childhood. One particular attraction at these melas was a swing where we sat on a horse attached by a string/rope to the central pole around which all the horses rotated. Our life is very much like this swing, where we are the horses attached to Almighty through an unseen STRING. The central pole Almighty is the force around which we all rotate. Most of the times, this ride is smooth, but sometimes the string gets pulled a bit too much, thereby making the ride bumpy. This is what we call "Sukh" and "Dukh". But, may the ride by smooth or bumpy, we all must continue to be attached to the Central Driving Force : God.

This reminds me of another String which we were attached to while in our mother's womb. Yes, the umbilical cord, through which we got all the food and nutrition which we needed. God had planned that for us, despite our being sub-conscious for months.

ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਨ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਦੇ ਤਹ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
Māṯ garabẖ mėh āpan simran ḏe ṯah ṯum rākẖanhāre.
In our mother's womb, You blessed us with Your meditative remembrance, and You preserved us there.

Another reference of an Unseen String is found in Shri Guru Granth Sahib, where Guru Arjun Dev jee says :

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੂ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Mū lālan sio parīṯ banī. Rahāo.
I have fallen in love with my Beloved Lord. ||Pause||

ਤੋਰੀ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਛੋਰੀ ਨ ਛੂਟੈ ਐਸੀ ਮਾਧੋ ਖਿੰਚ ਤਨੀ ॥੧॥
Ŧorī na ṯūtai cẖẖorī na cẖẖūtai aisī māḏẖo kẖincẖ ṯanī. ||1||
Cutting it, it does not break, and releasing it, it does not let go. Such is the string the Lord has tied me with. ||1||

Here Guru Sahib is requesting Akaal Purakh to pull the string of Preet/Love so tight that wordly desires and aspirations may never break it. A spiritually attuned soul must always strive to strengthen this bond/string with God and restrain from any such thought, which might drive it away from the Central Force.

Vaheguru jee ka Khalsa, Vaheguru jee ki Fateh !
